8 Tips To Help You Crush Your New Years Resolutions

8 Tips To Help You Crush Your New Years Resolutions

It's getting close to that time of year again. Time to reflect on the past twelve months and set resolutions for the new one. We all have high hopes for what we want to achieve in the coming year, but often times we fall short of our goals. Don't worry, you're not alone! A lot of people struggle with sticking to their new year's resolutions. In this blog post, we will give you 8 tips that will help you finally stick to your resolutions and achieve your goals!

1. Set realistic goals

It's important to set realistic goals for yourself that you know you can achieve. If you make a goal too ambitious it'll be hard to get motivated because you'll feel like no matter what you do, you won't be able to achieve what you set out to do. This can be massively demotivating, so pick goals that are challenging but achievable.

2. Break it down

Break your resolution into smaller chunks and focus on one thing at a time. If you want to lose 50lbs this year, don't think about the 50lbs you need to drop, think about the 1lb per week you need to lose. That doesn't seem so impossible, does it?

3. Make a plan

After you've broken your big goal into smaller more manageable pieces, make a plan to achieve them! What can you do to guarantee that you lose 1 pound each week? Are you going to change the way you do your grocery shopping? Are you going to go to the gym? Are you going to stop drinking soda? Make a plan, and stick to it!

4. Get help!

If you aren't sure how to accomplish your goal, ask somebody who has already done it. Want to lose 50lbs? Find somebody who has lost 50lbs and ask them what they did. Remember: it's better to copy genius than to create mediocrity.

5. Set reminders

Whether it's a physical reminder or an app on your phone, use something to remind you of your new year's resolution, and the plan you created to get you there. If you write your new years resolution in an old dusty journal and then throw it in your closet til next year, that probably won't do you much good. Make a plan for what you need to do each week to accomplish your goal, and then stick to it! Set reminders to help you stay on track.

6. Find accountability

Reach out to family and friends who have similar new year's resolutions. Working together can help to keep you both accountable and motivated as you strive to reach your goals. Something as simple as a daily or weekly check-in can be enough motivation to keep you on track.

7. Track your progress

It's important to track your progress throughout the year so that you can see how far you've come, and make sure that the plan you put together is actually working. This will help you stay motivated when you see the progress you've made towards your new year's resolution, or help you pivot to a new plan if the one you started with isn't working for you.

8. Have fun

This is really important and often gets overlooked. If you find ways to make reaching your goals fun, you'll be WAY more likely to actually stay consistent with them. If you want to lose weight, and you decide to exercise by running on a treadmill, but you HATE the treadmill, how likely are you going to be to stick with that? Instead what if you start playing pickleball, or join a yoga or dance class, or get a dog and start taking it on walks or jogs around your neighborhood. If you enjoy your activity you'll be far more likely to stick with it, which is exactly what you need to do to make true progress.

By following these 8 tips, you'll finally be able to stick to your new year's resolutions and achieve all of your goals in the new year! Good luck!
